HELLO.
I‘m Lilian Zen, and I am an English teacher in Brazil. I give tutoring (‘private’) classes to business people and professionals who are too busy to drive to a language school and too bored with huge heterogenuous groups of students, with different objectives and particular difficulties.
I do believe that one-to-one classes are very efficient because teacher and student can go straight to the point, which is, discuss about the student’s needs, and, then, work on them.
The initial proposal of my blog was merely to collect interesting, useful, and reliable material found in the net to learn English. Suddenly, I felt the urge to improve some things in the blog and started writing about English grammar in Portuguese – the result was very positive: every day, more and more people visiting the blog to read the explanations, and I intend to keep the things this way now.

Do you wanna get any info about Australian English? Mainly about slangs? It is just crazy… More than 2 years here and I am still lost when the locals decide to talk using slangs…

I just came across your blog and your post on English exams, and wondered whether you’d be interested in two of our sites. Flo-Joe is a very popular website for students preparing for FCE, CAE and CPE and offer lots of free exercises. The site won the British Council Elton award in 2003.

Olá Lilian. Descobri esse blog a apenas alguns dias e está me ajudando muito. Estou indo para Vancouver em um mês e estava um pouco incerto em relação ao meu nível de inglês. Uma coisa que tenho me perguntado e não achei nada relacionado e que seria um post bacana pra você fazer é quando usar o verbo correto. Por exemplo: I’ll bring it there / I’ll take it there. Eles querem dizer “basicamente a mesma coisa”, quando devo usar um ou outro?! Seria bem legal se você pegasse os verbos mais comuns e trabalhasse nessas questões, verbos como por exemplo:
befall / happen
begin / start
catch / take
bring / take
know / meet
leave / let
eu não achei nada a respeito disso, se tiver alguma coisa já postada desculpe
)

esta e a primera vez que consultei o blog tenho que lhe dizer estou com muita admiracao por si. obrigado.vivo em londres ha 4 anos e apartir de agora nao mais vou deixa-la. voce e inglesa? eu penso que para comecar a comunicar em ingles tem se que memorizar os tempos verbais certo?

Não, não sou inglesa. Sou brasileira mesmo.
E quanto aos verbos, é sempre bom utilizá-los no tempo correto. Mas enquanto ainda não dominar todos os tempos verbais, não se incomode, apenas continue estudando e praticando, e logo estará falando e utilizando a língua naturalmente, especialmente no seu caso que está morando na Inglaterra.

Procure um bom material didático de uma boa editora.
Dê uma pesquisada nos materiais da Oxford, Macmillan e Cambridge, entre outras tantas.
Fora o livro, você pode também usar uma gramática.
De qualquer maneira, te aconselho fazer aulas particulares, você verá que seu investimento vale a pena!
É melhor você estudar e aprender corretamente, do que, no futuro, ter que corrigir velhos vícios de linguagem, pronúncias erradas e coisas do tipo.
